The Skinny on Austin

Hey everyone! Sam here, writing to you from the Dan's Party bunker, many miles below the Earth's crust where we perfect our theatrical bamboozling skills (a very technical term, mind you).

As some of you might have seen on our Facebook Fanpage status a little while back, we posted that something "very big has happened for us! Like, Texas-size big!" and that "More details [were] to come."

WELL GUESS WHAT:

A little while back we got a call from a cool producer type named Jeremy Lamb, who runs the Out Of Bounds comedy festival in Austin, Texas. Jeremy informed us of an annual competition called the College Improv Tournament, which is run from Chicago at the Chicago Improv Festival (http://www.chicagoimprovfestival.org/web/ccc_home.php). Turns out that not only is Jeremy in charge of the southwestern competition bracket for the CIT, but he wanted us to sign up as competitors.

I know, right!?

So what exactly does that mean? Well, on November 14th, the rest of the guys and I (along with our trusty sound tech Justin Cunningham) will be down in Austin at the Vanguard Theater, going head-to-head with other regional college improv groups of all different shapes and sizes. If we do well in Austin (ie, we make it to the top of the regional bracket through up to two 25 minute performaces judged by a variety of improv experts, scrutinizing us under very specific guidelines), we'll not only get some nifty plaques to bring home with us, but we'll be confirmed as national finalists and compete with four other groups in Chicago in early 2010.

Naturally, we're all a bit excited over here. We'll do our best to update you guys on the happenings and goings-ons in Austin. In the meantime, we've been told that all of our performances will be taped and posted online, so don't fret if you can't make it to Austin and watch us in person.

Alright, I've talked (typed) for long enough. More details as they come! Keep an eye out for a new show happening later this month! DUTY NOW, CADETS!

-Sam

Dan's Party: Officially endorsed by local government

Everyone in Fayetteville knows that Mayor Lioneld Jordan has a very active Facebook status. The thing gets updated at least every few hours, letting his followers know what he'll be working on that day, or what local event he's planning on attending, etc...

Anywho, it was a nice surprise to see this on his status:

How cool is that?

That was awfully nice of Mayor Jordan to point us out to everyone. Hopefully it'll garner an even bigger audience for us on our upcoming show on the 22nd.
